Tasman Region Industrial Tramways

INTRODUCTION

This page gets you a step closer to finding lists of Industrial Tramways for a particular area. The large regions which the country has been split up into are still too large to list individual tramways, but help in defining smaller areas where tramways existed. The Tasman region has been further divided into three sub-regions. These smaller areas have been given geographical names and clicking on the area or name will take you to a map of just that area which will show the more specific Tramway areas.

To help visualise the Tasman region relative to the stations on the Nelson Section, it encompasses the whole area west of the now closed Nelson Railway, but does not go as far south as any of the West Coast railways.

The initial source of Tramway data is of course the New Zealand Railway and Tramway Atlas, the most comprehensive single source of data, however as local history books are sourced, significant additional data will be able to be accessed. Use the Discussion and Info Submission pages (accessible from a tab at the top of this page) if you are able to provide additional data. You do need to be registered user to be able to add data.
