INTRODUCTION

This page gets you a step closer to finding lists of Industrial Tramways for a particular area. The large regions the country has been split up into are still too large to list individual tramways but help in defining smaller areas where tramways existed. These smaller areas have been given geographical names and clicking on the area or name will take you to a page listing all known tramways with links to pages for each individual one. This page also differentiates the types of tramways that existed, so some areas may provide links to a Bush Tramway page as well as a Mine, Factory, or Construction Tramway page.

To help visualise the Northland region relative to the stations on the North Auckland Line, it encompasses the whole area north of Kaipara Flat including the northern half of the Kaipara harbour.

The initial source of Tramway data is of course the New Zealand Railway and Tramway Atlas, the most comprehensive single source of data, however as local history books are sourced, significant additional data will be able to be accessed
