This edition of the Engineering Notes was effectively a loose-leaf system, allowing for updates and additions. The binding was locked together using Chicago screws through matching metal angles that formed the spine and to which heavy cardboard covers were bound. No two copies will be exactly the same, however there were 26 printed pages that formed the core of each book. Depending on the owner's specialty area, locally produced pages were added as required. The majority of these were produced on the old plan printers using the Diazo process which faded over time if exposed to light. in 1974, many additional pages were produced as metric equivalents of pages with imperial units on them. All pages were single-sided
