The term Station is much broader than most people would imagine. A formal definition (for this wiki anyway) would be along the lines of "any officially named place on an officially named railway line". That means a station could just be a place where a train is scheduled to stop to pick-up or drop-off passengers, it need have no other facilities. It could also mean all the railway facilities at a major station like Wellington, which then includes everything from the Ferry terminals through to the main Station Building.

This page primarily forms the main index to every railway station, which is a ready way to get to a specific station. However, if you do not know the exact station you want to viewbut know the Railway LIne name it was on, you should use the Railway Lines index, where you can see each station on that line in both alphabetical order and the natural sequence (or linear reference order).
