Railway occupations have a very close relationship with employees, as every employee had/has an occupation. Due to the fact that many occupations have been referred to by different titles over the years, those NZR occupations that have been referred to by sometimes several names will all link to the same page with a standardised name that has more relevance to modern-day people. All earlier names will be listed at the start of each such page.
