Locomotive Notes

  • two locomotives approved to be converted to oil burning
  • Loco_X594 the only one converted to to simple operation to date
  • Loco_Ab661 spotted at Palmerston North with Roller Bearing Tender bogies
  • 6 Tenders (less underframes) of G_Class_Loco pattern made at Otahuhu 3 - 4 years ago - not used yet
  • Loco_Ka945 seen working the "night limited" from Frankton to Auckland
  • Loco_TTT9 spotted at Putaruru for hydraulic testing
  • Loco_TTT7 in shed, in need of clean and overhaul
  • LocoTTT10 also at Putaruru.
  • A number of A_class_locos appeared in Wellington displacing Ab_class_locos; Loco_A600, Loco_A601, Loco_A606, Loco_A604, ex Palmerston North displaced Loco_Ab829, Loco_Ab831, Loco_Ab837, Loco_Ab838.
  • The only Ab class left seem to be; Loco_Ab826, Loco_Ab827, Loco_Ab832
  • Loco_Fa9 spotted at working Horotiu Freezing works with Loco_F257 also in the yard apparently undergoing inspection
  • Picton Engine Loco_Wf389 first to run through since connection made, to Hillside for overhaul

Mount Somers Fa Loco

  • Originally Loco_O10 (later Loco_F10) sold to Ohai Railway Board in 1919, date to Mt Somers unknown

Wh_class_loco's

  • 5 originally acquired by WMR from Manning Wardell. Loco_WMR1 became NZR Loco_Wh447 in 1908, sold to Collet & Son Dannevirke 1927, Loco_WMR2 became NZR Loco_Wh448 in 1908, Loco_WMR3 and LocoWMR5 sold to Timaru Harbour Board in 1901 or 1902 one scrapped to Japan, the other to Mt Somers. Loco_WMR4 became NZRWh449 in 1908, sold to Waipa Railway & Coal Co in 1914
