STATION NAME--the Maori is literally translated as "day or place of safety or recovery". In this instance the name was given to commemorate the peace treaty signed between Ngai-Tahu and Ngati-Mamoe at Kaiapoi, so translates as "place of peace". D. N. Hawkins
