Chronology

2/06/1873 - F12 Ordered as one of four locomotives for the Winton to Kingston Railway

1874 - F12 built by the Yorkshire Engine Company, at the Meadowhall Works, Sheffield, England

17/02/1875 - F12 most likely the arrived at Bluff on the ship E. P. Bouverie and given Number 12 in the Otago numbering series

1887 - F12 now based in Christchurch

1890 - F12 retains its number because it was an Otago numbered loco

1898 - F12 receives a new boiler at Addington Workshops

1910 - F12 is again based at Invercargill

1924 - F12 receives another new Boiler at Addington Workshops (NZR 409)

1940 - F12 is returned to Christchurch District

1957 - F12 Sold to the Waitaki Farmer's Freezing Company at Pukeuri

1968 - F12 saved from scrapping by the Otago and Canterbury Branches of the Railway & Locomotive Societies with the cab and some fittings immediately going for use at the Ocean Beach Railway. The locomotive itself going to Ferrymead as a parts source for both groups.
